NANOAX is Prometals’ line engineered for low-intensity refining at low consistency. Ultra-thin blades (1–2.5 mm), optimized bar angles, and open grooves promote micro-fibrillation with minimal cutting, enabling faster strength development, lower fines generation, and improved drainage control.
- Fiber quality: higher tensile and internal bonding with preserved fiber length
- Energy efficiency: strength per kWh optimized across wide freeness range
- Process stability: forgiving patterns for dilution swings and furnish variability
- Durability: alloy selection and heat treatment for long life and consistent gap
Blade thickness: 1.0–2.5 mm across the refining zone to minimize cutting and maximize fibrillation. Bar angles tuned for LC loading to manage residence time, shear, and impulse. Open, self-cleaning grooves maintain dilution and reduce plate plugging.
- Thin bar regioning for gradual intensity transition
- Variable bar angle sets for runnability and nip density
- Wide grooves at inlet; controlled tapering toward outlet
- Alloy and heat treatment for edge retention and stability
Compatible with leading low-consistency refiners (single- and double-disc). Diameters typically 20"–34" (custom on request). Mounting interfaces follow OEM bolt circles and keys; adapters available.
- Models: Voith, Andritz/Fisher-Klosterman, Aikawa, Metso/Valmet, and others
- Segments or full discs; inlet/outlet patterning per model
- Hardness and alloy selection adapted to furnish abrasiveness
Need an uncommon model or size? We build to print or reverse-engineer from samples.
- Blade thickness: 1.0 / 1.5 / 2.0 / 2.5 mm (custom on request)
- Bar angles: 5°–35° sets by zone; symmetric or progressive
- Grooves: 2.5–6.0 mm, tapered; self-cleaning inlet
- Materials: wear-resistant alloy steels; optional hardfacing
- Heat treatment: controlled quench and temper for edge retention
- Disc format: segmented or monoblock; keyed hub or bolt-on
- QC: flatness, runout, and hardness verified per batch
- Consistency: 2.5–4.5% typical; stabilize dilution for steady specific edge load
- Specific energy: ramp gradually; target strength per kWh rather than absolute freeness
- Gap control: avoid zero-gap spikes; monitor plate temperature and vibration
- Load strategy: start with lower intensity, increase flow before load to maintain cooling
- Furnish: for recycled fibers, use narrower grooves initially to manage stickies
- Maintenance: inspect edges per shift initially; extend intervals as stability is proven
Containerboard mill, OCC furnish, 30" LC refiner. NANOAX thin-bar segments replaced standard 3–5 mm bars.
- +14% tensile at same freeness (°SR)
- −9% specific energy for target tensile
- −18% fines generation; improved drainage stability
- Runtime between changes: +25%
